Quick answers for the most common questions. A real person reads every email.

Getting started

Download Mac Shield, open the disk image and drag Mac Shield into Applications. Open it from there and run Smart Check. Every check is free and shows its full results.

Full Disk Access

macOS protects folders such as Desktop, Documents and Downloads. Some checks, like the search for recovery phrases and private keys, need to read them. Mac Shield explains why and opens System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access for you. It’s optional: without it, Mac Shield tells you which checks it couldn’t complete.

The free trial

In Mac Shield, choose Try Pro. You get every Pro feature for 7 days with no card and no email. There’s one trial per Mac.

Your license key

After you subscribe, your key appears on the welcome page and arrives by email from licenses@macshield.app. In Mac Shield, open Settings → Pro and paste it. Lost it? Get your original key again.

Two Macs, and moving to a new one

One subscription covers 2 Macs. Enter the same key on each. To move to a new Mac, deactivate an old one in Mac Shield’s Settings → Pro. If a Mac is lost or broken, free your Macs by email. That signs Pro out of every Mac on your subscription; then enter your key again on the Macs you use.

Billing, cancelling and receipts

There’s no account to sign in to. Ask for a billing link and we’ll email a one-time link to Stripe’s billing page, where you can cancel, switch plans, update your card and download receipts. If you cancel, Pro stays on until the end of the period you’ve paid for. Refunds are covered on the refund policy.

If a payment fails

Stripe retries automatically, and Pro stays on for a short grace period while it does. Mac Shield shows “Update your card” so you can fix it from the billing link.

Code Red

Code Red takes your Mac off the network and keeps Apple’s update servers reachable. To end it early, open Mac Shield and choose Restore; it puts your network settings back exactly how they were. Code Red and restore are always free, even if Pro has ended.

Updates

Mac Shield checks for updates itself, and every update is free for everyone. Release notes are on What’s new.
